The Brit Royal family commisioned a portrait by Paul Emsley for the Duchess of Cambridge for her 31 birthday. I am not an artist and don't think I can appreciate a piece of art as the experts do but from the surface, I just don't like it at all. Kate looks old and even a bit scary in that drawing. Now you can call me stupid and ignorant. LOL
I wonder if those dukes and duchesses in the paintings we see in the meseums actually weren't that old and dull as they showed. ;)
To prove my point, here's the most recent picture of the Duchess, visiting the Portrait Unveiling event. It's a lovely deep red dress by Whisles.
The dress is not the first debut. We saw a peek-boo of it last fall.
The Duchess has chosen the fashion brand in occasions before.

I feel very bad for her ... no doubt she will graciously accept it ... but it is not a good portrait of her as she is today. Maybe fifteen years down the road.
If I were paying for it, I would decline to pay. On the video he states at first he was not going to have her smile. Then he states he worked on the hair.
Well, Ill give him that. The hair is beautiful. But what woman wants to look older than her actual years?
NONE, unless she is an actress playing a part.
I will try and see her in this painting as she truly is, a lovely beautiful YOUNG woman.
Judy, i totally agree with you on the age thing of this paintng. No doubt it's a piece of fine art, but since we all have seen how beautiful and vivid Kate is through modern technology such as photography....maybe it's time for the royals to move up a bit like take roral portrait photos instead. :) Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
