You probably remember that I made a new year resolution of removing as much harsh chemical as possible from my daily life and replacing it with safer healthy choices.
My first homemade project is hair gel.
Store bought hair gels perhaps won't kill you, right away, but we all know how alcohol dries up our skin and hair. Plus, the alcohol used in personal care products are actually poisonous. The reason? so you don't drink from it. Make any sense? perhaps not.
I wash my permed curly hair with apple cider vinager and essential oils, and use natural argan oil as hair treatment. But to keep the texture and definition of the curls, I do need something that could hold.
Final Product:
What you need
1. Natural gelatin powder, animal or vegetarian. Mine is beef gelatin
2. filtered water
3. a small mixing bowl
4. Essential oils of your own choice. I use lavender becuase it's safe on skin and rose for its amazing aroma
5. a jar or squeeze bottle
Steps:
1. boiling half cup of fitered water
2. mix in 1/4 tbsp of gelatin and stir it immediately until it's completely desolved
3. refrigerate the mixture for 2-3 hours
4. drop a few drops of essential oils and mix
5. put the mixture into a jar or squeeze bottle.
Notes:
1. essential oils are good but they can be dangerous to human skin above certain level of concentration. Lavender oil has been proved to be one of the safest. Be careful with tea tree oil which is famous for its benefit in hair/skin products. It does BURN!
2. I think you can find vegetarian gelatin at wholefoods, or amazon but I am not sure of the texture since I have not used it myself.
3. Keep the mixture refrigerated between uses since it's gello and does melt. :)
My hair after wash this morning, with just argan oil and my hair gel. Not too shabby, right? :)

Admire to death! Are you completely away from shampoo or still using it occasionally? I can’t imagine your home made hair gel really works! Your hair looks great and attractive, and sexy I should say :-)

LOL
