Trend Alert: Major Peplums

Everything in 80s seems making its comeback, soon or later. Last few seasons we saw those shoulder pads and this spring and summer peplums are everywhere when I was just wondering about it. :)

Princess Diana was famous for her shoulder pad suits and peplum details.


Today we are not sure if she's truly a girl after her famous mother-in-law's own heart or she just loves the detail herself, we see the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine wearing peplum like nobody's business.


Of course, the trend was started by runways earlier


And on hollywood stars and celebrities


To me this is a major silhouette. As much as it may sound flattering since it could create smaller waist illusion, it can be easily looked at as "clowny" and "dramatic". For hippie girls like yours truly, those extra ruffls on the hips are not desired.

In my humble opinion, if you want to rock a peplum, keep top and bottom as sleek as possible. Don't go super complicated with over done details. I have seen people trying to add a puffy skirt underneath, but honestly, it looks...just too much.
I got a peplum top from J.crew this year. And I can't wait until a warmer day to wear it with my white pencil pants.

Actually on the same note, you really don't have to buy new pieces to create a peplum look. Find an oversized top, silk, knit, anything that has wide opening at the hem, cinch it at the waist with a sleek belt, I think you just got one peplum for yourself.
